Strategy
Petrel’s long-standing objective since 1999 has been to secure and operate risk-sharing contracts to produce and explore for oil in Iraq. We only work with the exclusive consent of the Iraqi Oil Ministry and our focus remains on identifying and accessing unique exploration and development opportunities in Southern Iraq in frontier and established basins. At the core of this strategy is to build local partnerships and technical expertise with the best people whilst applying the latest techniques.
Petrel is also involved in neighboring countries where there might be important synergies at a political, technical, and operational level. In recent years, our staff has gained knowledge of the petroleum systems of the Arabian Peninsula and this has led to the pursue of select opportunities outside Iraq.
